An .iconpackage file is a custom desktop theme archive created by Stardock IconPackager. It contains a bundled collection of ICO files alongside configuration data used to bulk-replace default Windows desktop icons, such as the Recycle Bin, default folders, and system drives.
The primary disadvantage of the .iconpackage format is its proprietary nature. It acts as a closed ecosystem; applying these themes natively to Windows requires a paid software license. Furthermore, these files cannot be previewed natively in web browsers or standard image viewers, effectively locking your icon assets inside a specialized container.
Users typically want to extract the high-quality icons trapped inside. The best conversion strategy is to extract the raw ICO files, and then convert those individual icons to standard web formats like PNG or SVG. Because an .iconpackage is structurally a compressed archive rather than a standard image, standard online image converters fail to process the package as a whole.
