About GUIT files
A .GUIT file is a proprietary note sequence file created by the community-developed Rust Guitar Tool, designed specifically for the video game Rust. These files do not store actual audio data; instead, they contain a sequence of simulated acoustic guitar notes and timing data meant to automate in-game instrument playing.
Because the Rust Guitar Tool is now obsolete abandonware, .GUIT files are incredibly difficult to utilize today. The primary disadvantage of this format is its strict, proprietary nature. Without the original software to interpret the macros, the files cannot be directly played or imported into modern digital audio workstations (DAWs) or standard media players.
To preserve the musical data, your best option is to convert the .GUIT file to a plain text format like TXT or JSON. This allows you to view the raw note sequence and manually migrate it to modern Rust instrument players. Converting directly to MID (MIDI) is the ideal scenario, though all original game-specific timing nuances may be lost in translation.
Standard online converters will fail to process .GUIT files because they expect standard audio codecs, not proprietary game macros. This is a closed format that only the original tool can natively export. If our analysis detects a readable underlying structure, viewing or converting the note sequence to a more universal format may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GUIT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GUIT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GUIT converter.
