The .GTKRC file is a plain text configuration document used primarily by the GTK toolkit (specifically version 2) to style graphical user interfaces. These files define the colors, fonts, margins, and widget appearances for Linux desktop environments like GNOME. You can open and edit them using standard text editors such as Vim or gedit. Users often struggle with .GTKRC files because the format relies on a proprietary, outdated C-style syntax. This makes it incredibly difficult for non-developers to read or modify. Furthermore, modern desktop environments have completely abandoned this format in favor of CSS, meaning old .GTKRC themes will not work on newer systems.
