The .grasp file is a legacy multimedia animation format developed in the 1980s. Originally created for MS-DOS environments, these files function as containers that hold programmable text scripts, color maps, fonts, and low-resolution image frames. They were primarily used to create rudimentary educational tutorials, games, and graphical presentations.
The format was native to GRASP (Graphical System for Presentation), an early PC software developed by John Bridges and Doug Wolfgram.
Users typically want to convert .grasp files to modern video formats like mp4, avi, or gif so they can be viewed on modern operating systems or shared on the web. However, the current format is completely obsolete. It is highly proprietary, limited to 256 colors, and entirely unsupported by modern web browsers or standard video players.
