About GLV files

The .GLV file extension primarily represents a Garmin Low-Resolution Video file created by Garmin VIRB action cameras. When recording, the camera simultaneously generates a high-definition MP4 file and a smaller, lower-resolution .GLV proxy file. This low-resolution file allows the Garmin VIRB app or desktop software to quickly preview footage over Wi-Fi without buffering massive 4K files. The primary disadvantage of the .GLV format is that standard media players often do not recognize the custom extension, even though the internal structure is actually a standard MPEG-4 video. Users frequently struggle to open these files outside of the Garmin ecosystem or find them needlessly consuming storage space alongside the main MP4 clips. Because it is internally an MP4 file, the best conversion target is a standard MP4. You can often just rename the file extension directly. Alternatively, converting it to AVI or MKV ensures maximum compatibility across generic video players. While proprietary extensions can be frustrating, the underlying data here is standard. Typical online converters often reject the unrecognized .GLV extension outright. If our analysis detects the supported underlying MPEG-4 format, viewing or conversion is seamlessly supported.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GLV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DMV, 360 and LGE files.
