About GAMEPROJ files

The .gameproj file is a proprietary project format used exclusively by GameSalad, a visual 2D game development platform. These files act as containers holding scene logic, actor behaviors, physics settings, and media assets like audio and images. This format is highly restrictive and locked into the GameSalad ecosystem. Users face significant disadvantages: you cannot open or edit a .gameproj file without a paid GameSalad subscription, and web browsers cannot natively display its contents. Compiling the project into a playable game executable is strictly restricted to the official GameSalad Creator servers. Standard online converters completely fail to process .gameproj files because they are not single media files. On macOS, they are package folders containing multiple directories, XML files, and media assets. If you need to recover data from a .gameproj file without the software, your best conversion targets are extracting internal assets to PNG, OGG, or XML. Because this is a complex project folder, direct conversion to an executable game format is impossible outside the original software.
