About FTI files
The .fti extension is shared between two completely different industries: retro audio synthesis and electrical engineering.
1. FamiTracker Instrument File (Audio/Music): Most commonly, this is an instrument definition saved by FamiTracker, a tracker used to create Nintendo (NES) style chiptune music. Unlike a full song (DO NOT confuse with FTM), an .fti file contains only the specific settings for a single sound - volume envelopes, duty cycles, and pitch sequences - designed for the 2A03 synthesizer chip.
Friction Points: Because these files are raw synthesizer instructions, standard media players like VLC or iTunes cannot open them. You cannot "convert" them directly to MP3 without first loading them into a tracker and rendering a sequence.
2. Amtech Project File (Engineering): In the construction sector, an .fti file is a project export from Trimble Amtech ProDesign, the industry standard for electrical installation design in the UK. These files often contain cable sizing data, protection settings, and certification details exported for use in FastTest or for archiving.
Friction Points: These are highly proprietary binary or structured data files. Opening them requires a paid license for the Amtech suite, which can cost thousands. They are not backward compatible with older versions, and they are indistinguishable from audio files by name alone.
3. ISO 20022 Financial Data: Less frequently, an .fti file may contain XML-based Payment Initiation data used in banking systems. These can be opened with any text editor but are intended for machine processing.

If you want to convert FTI file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use FamiTracker or similar software from the "Instrument Definition & Project Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to FTI, try FamiTracker or another comparable tool in the "Instrument Definition & Project Data" category.
The FTI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FTI converter.
