About FPPX files
An .FPPX file is a proprietary digital painting project created by Microsoft Fresh Paint. It stores raster graphics, brush stroke data, and realistic paint physics like canvas texture and wetness. This format is notoriously difficult to manage. You cannot open an .FPPX file in standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP, nor can you view it in a web browser. It requires the original Fresh Paint Windows application. This creates a severe lock-in effect, restricting your artwork to a single ecosystem. To share your art, you must convert the file to standard formats like .JPG or .PNG. During conversion, the dynamic paint physics and layer data will be permanently flattened into a static image. Because .FPPX is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. The encoding is undocumented, meaning only the original software can properly read or export the full data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FPPX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FPPX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FPPX converter.
