About FP4 files
A .FP4 file is a legacy relational database created by Claris FileMaker Pro 4. It typically contains data tables, fields, graphical layouts, and custom scripts. It is natively opened by legacy versions of FileMaker Pro.
Users frequently need to convert this file because the format is entirely obsolete and heavily proprietary. Modern versions of FileMaker cannot open .FP4 files directly; they require a frustrating, multi-step upgrade path using intermediary legacy software (like FileMaker Pro 11). The original software requires expensive paid licenses, and standard web browsers or generic spreadsheet tools cannot read the complex internal data structure.
The best target formats for your data are CSV or XLSX for raw tabular data, or SQL for migrating to modern database systems. Be aware that exporting to these formats will permanently strip away the graphical user interfaces, custom forms, and scripts, leaving only the raw data.
This file format is highly difficult to open or convert online because it is closed and proprietary. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the relational data. Standard online converters fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FP4 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FP4 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FP4 converter.
