About FLASK files

A .flask file is a settings profile created by FlasKMPEG, a classic video conversion tool developed by Alberto Vigatá. It stores specific encoding configurations, such as bitrate, frame rate, resolution, and audio parameters, used primarily to rip DVDs or convert MPEG video streams to AVI format.

This format is severely limited today. FlasKMPEG is a legacy application that peaked in the early 2000s, meaning these configuration files are virtually useless on modern operating systems. The .flask file does not contain any actual video or audio media; it is purely a configuration file. Users often mistake it for a video file because it is associated with a video converter, which leads to immense frustration when standard media players like VLC fail to play it.

Because it holds only parameter data, you cannot convert a .flask file to an MP4 or MKV video. However, you might want to convert the internal data to a TXT or XML file to read the old encoding settings. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it uses a proprietary structure tied to obsolete software. Standard online converters fail to process it because they expect media data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FLASK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EXE and PHP files.

The FLASK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FLASK converter.
