About FFINDEX files

The .ffindex file is a media index generated by FFmpegSource2 (often abbreviated as FFMS2), a popular video source plugin used with AviSynth and VapourSynth. When these frameservers open a video file like MKV or MP4, FFMS2 scans the media to ensure frame-accurate seeking and saves this mapping data as a .ffindex file. The primary disadvantage of a .ffindex file is that it contains absolutely no actual audio or video data. It is strictly a reference map. This means you cannot play, view, or listen to a .ffindex file in media players like VLC. Furthermore, these files often clutter project folders and are entirely useless if the original media file is moved, modified, or deleted. Because this is a highly specific data file, standard online converters fail to process it. Attempting to convert a .ffindex to MP4 or MP3 will not work because the media data is absent. Instead of converting the index, you should locate the associated video file and convert that. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is a specialized technical format. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FFINDEX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
