About FCARCH files
A .fcarch file is a Final Cut Pro Camera Archive used to back up entire camera memory cards while maintaining the original file structure and metadata. These archives are created and opened exclusively by Apple's Final Cut Pro. The main disadvantage of the .fcarch format is that it is a proprietary Apple macOS bundle. It behaves like a single file on a Mac but is actually a hidden directory. It requires a paid Mac-only software license to use natively. Windows users and video editors using Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve cannot simply import a .fcarch file, making cross-platform collaboration incredibly difficult. Furthermore, these archives are often hundreds of gigabytes in size because they clone raw camera media bit-for-bit. You cannot perform a direct 1:1 conversion of this entire archive. Instead, you must manually extract the underlying media files, which are usually MOV, MXF, or MTS, and then convert those into highly compatible formats like MP4 or .ProRes. This file format is difficult to open or convert online because standard online converters fail to parse macOS package structures. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded video format within the uploaded archive structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
