About F4F files
An .F4F file is a Flash Video Fragment used primarily by Adobe Media Server for HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS). Instead of delivering a single large video file, the server splits the video into small chunks (.F4F) and sends them to the client. A master manifest file (F4M) directs the player on how to reassemble and play these fragments in real-time.
The current format has severe disadvantages. It is proprietary and largely obsolete since Adobe Flash reached End of Life in 2020. Users cannot open a single .F4F fragment in standard media players or web browsers. Without the master manifest, an isolated fragment lacks the complete header and index data required for video playback.
To make this data usable, users must stitch the fragments together into a unified format. The best conversion targets are MP4 or FLV. However, converting this format is difficult. Standard online converters fail to process it because an isolated fragment is technically incomplete. Often, only specialized scripts or the original server software can properly read, stitch, or export the data into a standard video container.
Despite these technical limitations, you can use convert.guru to inspect the file. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

The F4F Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our F4F converter.
