The .ESQ file is an Embroidery Sequence File developed by the VSM Group. It is primarily used with Pfaff computerized embroidery machines to manage multiple hoop placements. It stores the exact sequence in which different components should be stitched.
The biggest challenge with the .ESQ format is that it does not contain the actual 3D stitch data. Instead, it acts as a playlist. It references other embroidery files like EMB or VIP. This proprietary approach was designed to save space on older machine storage cards, but it makes modern file sharing very frustrating.
