Convert EQN to another file type
To convert EQN equations to another format, you need Corel WordPerfect or other Data software.
Convert a file to EQN
To convert other file formats to the "Mathematical and Logic Equations" file type, you need software like Corel WordPerfect or a similar tool.
About EQN files
The .EQN file format primarily serves two distinct technical purposes: it is either a WordPerfect Equation or a GAL Equation File. In document processing, Corel WordPerfect uses the .EQN extension to save mathematical formulas created with its built-in Equation Editor. These files allow mathematicians, scientists, and technical writers to insert formatted, reusable equations into WPD documents. Alternatively, in the realm of electronic design automation (EDA), an .EQN file is a Gate Array Logic file. These are plain-text files containing logic equations used to program PLDs (Programmable Logic Devices). Electrical engineers use CAD software like Altium Designer to write the logic.
Both versions of the .EQN format come with severe compatibility limitations. WordPerfect Equations are a closed, proprietary binary format that modern word processors like Microsoft Word or Google Docs cannot natively read. If you do not have an active Corel subscription, accessing the stored mathematical data is nearly impossible, as standard web browsers and tools cannot display them. Similarly, GAL equations are tied to highly specialized, legacy hardware programming workflows.
To overcome these barriers, converting the file is highly recommended. For WordPerfect .EQN files, the ideal conversion targets are modern math markup standards like MathML or LaTeX, or simply rasterizing them to JPG or PNG images for easy document insertion. For GAL equations, the standard target is compiling the logic into a binary JED (JEDEC) file using tools like eqn2jed so the data can be flashed onto a physical microchip.
Because of this dual identity - one proprietary binary math object and one plain-text hardware script - the format is notoriously difficult to process. Standard online converters almost always fail because they cannot determine the file's true nature. If your .EQN is a GAL file, we can easily extract the plain text.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EQN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EQN file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use Corel WordPerfect or similar software from the "Equation and Logic Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to EQN, try Corel WordPerfect or another comparable tool in the "Equation and Logic Storage" category.
The EQN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EQN converter.
