The .e2 file format primarily stores a 2D mechanical CAD drawing created in PTC Creo Elements/Direct Drafting (formerly CoCreate). In electrical engineering, it is also frequently used for schematic and project data in EPLAN Electric P8. Rarely, it acts as a data container for ERS SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite telemetry managed by the European Space Agency.
Users usually need to convert .e2 files because they are highly specialized, proprietary data containers. You cannot open an .e2 drawing in a web browser, standard image viewer, or basic text editor.
