About DVDS files

The .dvds file is a proprietary project file created by DVDStyler, an open-source DVD authoring application. It acts as a structural blueprint for generating a DVD menu and compilation. This file stores menu layouts, button coordinates, subtitle tracks, and absolute directory paths pointing to the actual video and audio assets on a user's hard drive.

Because .dvds files do not contain actual video or audio data, they cannot be played in standard media players like VLC. This creates a major real-world problem: users frequently try to share a .dvds file expecting the recipient to watch a video, only to find the file is just a few kilobytes of text. Furthermore, moving the project to another computer breaks the absolute file paths, rendering the project useless until the paths are manually updated.

You cannot directly convert a .dvds file to an MP4 or MKV video using standard online converters. These standard converters fail because the source media files remain locally on your computer, not inside the project file. To create a playable video or an ISO disk image, you must open the project in DVDStyler and use its internal rendering engine to generate the final VIDEO_TS structure.

Since the .dvds format is fundamentally an XML document, it is a closed, proprietary project state rather than a media container. This makes it difficult to convert into anything other than plain text formats like XML or TXT. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text structure, viewing or conversion to XML may still be possible to help you recover lost file paths and project configurations.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DVDS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MP4, USB and CDS files.
