A .DH2 file typically functions as one of three completely different, highly specialized formats: a retail business report generated by Pursuit or Decorus, an encrypted educational video lecture from Doping Hafıza, or 3D mining drillhole data used in Datamine Studio.
The most significant disadvantage of the .DH2 format is severe vendor lock-in. If the file is an educational video, it is usually a standard MP4 wrapped in a heavy layer of Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption. You cannot simply open it in standard media players like VLC or a web browser. Similarly, the retail report and mining variants are proprietary binary formats that require expensive, niche software licenses to interpret the raw data.
Converting these files is often necessary to regain control of your data. Users typically want to extract the underlying MP4 for offline video playback, convert business reports to PDF for easy sharing, or export 3D drillhole coordinates to CSV to use in standard GIS software.
