About DGB files

The .DGB file is a proprietary CAD format created by Digitarch for its FlashCAD software. It functions as a drawing database that stores 2D vector layouts, 3D models, component symbols, and project metadata. FlashCAD uses this integrated database approach to link geometric entities with external data tables, making it popular for complex architectural and engineering projects.

The main disadvantage of the .DGB format is its closed, proprietary nature. Files often exceed standard CAD sizes due to the embedded database structures. You cannot open a .DGB file natively in industry-standard software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. It restricts your workflow to the Digitarch ecosystem, forcing external collaborators to purchase or install FlashCAD simply to view a drawing or review project data.

To share these designs, you must convert them to universally recognized CAD formats like DWG or DXF. For read-only viewing, PDF is the best target. However, exporting complex database links often results in lost metadata, broken layer structures, or flattened 3D geometry. Standard online converters fail to process .DGB files because the proprietary database schema is entirely undocumented.

Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DGB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The DGB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DGB converter.
