A .dcproj file is a Dashcode Project package created by Apple Dashcode. Developers used this format to build macOS Dashboard widgets and early web applications for Safari. Technically, it is not a standard standalone file. It is a macOS package - a standard directory disguised as a single file by the operating system. Inside, it stores web development assets like HTML, CSS, JS, and various raster images.
The format suffers from severe disadvantages today. Dashboard was officially deprecated and entirely removed in macOS Catalina, rendering the ecosystem dead. Because it is a proprietary package structure, users on Windows or Linux cannot open it natively without archive utilities, making cross-platform collaboration frustrating.
Migrating from this format means you are extracting data rather than doing a traditional conversion. The best target formats are ZIP for archiving, or directly extracting the internal HTML and JS files to rebuild the widget as a modern web app. You will lose Dashcode-specific project settings and visual layout configurations during this process.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to convert online.
