About DA2 files

The .DA2 file serves two entirely distinct, incompatible ecosystems. In the gaming world, it acts as a proprietary Game Data Archive for Bink Video cutscenes or game assets (often seen in titles like Dragon Age II), utilizing compression technology from RAD Game Tools. Alternatively, in engineering environments, it is a Materials Testing Data file generated by ZwickRoell testXpert II software to log critical tensile and compression test results. A smaller subset of these files also relates to Panasonic RAW image metadata or DeepAnalysis eBay Sales Data.

Users face significant hurdles when trying to access these files outside of their native environments. Game data is locked in a proprietary container structure that standard media players cannot parse, making it frustrating for modders to extract cinematics. Similarly, testing data files require an expensive, licensed installation of the testXpert suite to open, creating a major bottleneck for engineers needing to share lab results with clients who lack the software.

For game files, users typically want to convert the internal video streams to standard formats like MP4 or AVI. For laboratory data, the ideal conversion targets are CSV, XLSX, or PDF to ensure the dataset is readable for structural analysis. However, because .DA2 is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters universally fail to process it.

Often, only the original game engine or laboratory software can properly read or export the data. Despite these heavy limitations, convert.guru provides a realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our tool will identify the exact file format, inspect the binary file structure, and display any readable text or internal metadata. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DA2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The DA2 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DA2 converter.
