About CVN files
The .CVN file is a CineVision Encoding Session file created by Sonic Solutions CineVision software. Professional authors use it to store project settings, video encoding parameters, and exact directory paths to source audio and video files for DVD or Blu-ray creation.
Because it is a project file, it does not contain actual video or audio data. This is a major disadvantage for users who mistake it for a media file. Standard video players and online converters will instantly fail to process it. Furthermore, Sonic Solutions is obsolete, making it incredibly difficult to find a working version of the original software to render the project.
If you want to play the video, you must locate the original source files. You cannot directly convert a .CVN file to MP4 or MKV because the media is simply not inside the file. Instead, the most pragmatic target formats are TXT or XML to extract the project's metadata and file paths.
This closed, proprietary format is difficult to open or convert. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CVN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CVN file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Sonic CineVision or similar software from the "Video Encoding Project File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CVN, try Sonic CineVision or another comparable tool in the "Video Encoding Project File" category.
The CVN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CVN converter.
