About CREV files

The .crev file format is primarily an Adobe Captivate Commentable SWF File used for collaborative reviewing of eLearning modules. When authors export a project for review in older versions of Adobe Captivate, it creates this package containing a Shockwave Flash (SWF) movie and embedded XML comment tracking data. The main disadvantage of the .crev format today is its total reliance on obsolete Flash technology. Because Flash was deprecated in 2020 due to severe security vulnerabilities, modern web browsers and operating systems natively block these files. Furthermore, this is a proprietary container format, meaning it requires outdated software installations or specific Adobe environments to run properly. Ideally, you should convert these files to modern web standards like .HTML5 for interactive playback or MP4 for standard video viewing. Be aware that converting to MP4 will completely strip out all interactive elements, quizzes, and clickable comments. Standard online converters usually fail to process .crev files because it is a closed, proprietary archive wrapped around deprecated technology. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects the supported underlying SWF or XML embedded format, viewing or extracting the raw review data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CREV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
