Convert a file to CKP
To convert other file formats to the "System Configuration Snapshot" file type, you need software like Check Point Security Gateway or a similar tool.
About CKP files
A .CKP file acts as a momentary snapshot or configuration backup, most commonly generated by Check Point firewall software or Microsoft SQL Server. For network administrators, these files store critical security policies, state tables, or system recovery points.
The key problem with .CKP files is their ambiguity and lack of universal compatibility. If generated by a Check Point Security Gateway, the file may be a proprietary binary or a structured text file containing firewall rules that cannot be easily viewed without the original management console. Users often discover these files during audits or disaster recovery attempts and find them unreadable in standard text editors. Similarly, SQL Server checkpoint files are strictly internal system markers used to truncate transaction logs; attempting to open them manually usually results in garbled binary data.
For documentation or auditing purposes, the best workflow is to convert valid Check Point configuration files to TXT or PDF. This renders the rules and object definitions into a human-readable format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CKP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CKPT, CPK, VMT, LSC and ECF files.

The CKP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CKP converter.
