About CIX files

A .CIX file is a CNC machining and woodworking program used to control automated routing, milling, and drilling machines. These files contain toolpaths and operational commands primarily generated and managed using bSolid or BiesseWorks, which are proprietary CAD/CAM software solutions developed by Biesse Group. Users frequently need to convert .CIX files because they are tightly locked into the Biesse ecosystem. The major disadvantage of this format is its proprietary nature; it is nearly impossible to open, edit, or preview on standard computers without an expensive software license. Furthermore, these files cannot be directly read by machines from other manufacturers. The best conversion targets for a .CIX file are .DXF for recovering raw 2D vector geometry, or generic .NC and .GCODE for cross-platform CNC machining. Be aware that converting away from .CIX will strip out proprietary machine-specific data, such as vacuum pod placement and specific tool magazine numbers. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to parse Biesse's proprietary machine instructions. Often, only the original Biesse software can properly read or export the toolpath data.
