Convert CIB to another file type
To convert CIB luminaire files to another format, you need DIALux or other Data software.
Convert a file to CIB
To convert other file formats to the "Lighting Design Data" file type, you need software like DIALux or a similar tool.
About CIB files
The .CIB file is a proprietary Luminaire Data File developed by DIAL GmbH. It contains photometric data required for architectural lighting design, including light distribution curves, spectrum data, hardware dimensions, and energy consumption metrics. These files are typically provided by lighting manufacturers for use within DIALux, a dominant software tool used by lighting engineers and architects to calculate illumination levels in buildings.
The core disadvantage of the .CIB format is its closed, vendor-locked nature. Unlike standard text-based photometric files, .CIB files cannot be easily read by third-party tools or simple text editors. They often require a complete installation of DIALux to view or utilize the data. Users outside the DIALux ecosystem frequently struggle to import these files into other CAD, BIM, or rendering programs like Autodesk Revit or Relux.
To achieve cross-platform compatibility, professionals need to convert .CIB files to industry-standard formats. The most requested target formats are IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) and LDT (Eulumdat). Converting to these formats preserves the raw light intensity matrices but often strips away proprietary 3D housing geometry embedded in the original file.
Because .CIB is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters consistently fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the internal data matrix. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CIB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert CIB file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use DIALux or similar software from the "Photometric Luminaire Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to CIB, try DIALux or another comparable tool in the "Photometric Luminaire Data Storage" category.
The CIB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CIB converter.
