The .CDLX file format primarily serves two very different functions: an Adobe Audition CD Layout File and a ConceptDraw DIAGRAM XML Library. In Adobe Audition, .CDLX files store the sequence, track markers, CD-Text, and pause gaps required to burn a Red Book standard audio CD. Alternatively, ConceptDraw DIAGRAM uses .CDLX files to store XML-based libraries of vector shapes, stencils, and objects for technical diagrams.
The main disadvantage of an Adobe Audition .CDLX file is that it contains zero actual audio data. It is merely a text-based reference file pointing to local WAV or MP3 files on your hard drive. If you send a .CDLX file to someone without the accompanying audio files, they cannot listen to the project. Furthermore, opening it requires a costly Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. ConceptDraw .CDLX libraries face similar limits: they are proprietary to Computer Systems Odessa and cannot be directly imported into standard web browsers or competing software like Microsoft Visio.
Users typically want to convert Audition .CDLX layouts to standard audio formats like MP3, WAV, or FLAC so anyone can listen to the tracks. For ConceptDraw libraries, users often look to convert individual shapes to SVG or PNG for web use, or VSSX for Visio compatibility.
Because these formats are highly specific - one relying on local file paths and the other on a proprietary vector rendering engine - standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
