A .BUL file is an I4 Bullseye Data File used for storing static (2D) and dynamic (3D) cardiac functional imaging data. It is primarily used by scientists and researchers working on heart-related biomedical simulations. These files are natively handled by I4, a biomedical image processing program, and JSim, a numerical modeling tool developed by the NSR Physiome Project.
The main disadvantage of the .BUL format is its highly specialized, proprietary nature. Without the specific JSim or I4 software installed, the file is essentially unreadable. This creates massive friction when sharing experimental heart models with researchers who use standard data analysis tools. Relying on an isolated academic file format limits peer collaboration.
To make the data usable across different platforms, you should convert the internal numeric arrays to CSV, TXT, or XML. These universal formats allow you to import the biological metrics into standard software like Microsoft Excel or Python dataframes, although you will lose the proprietary 3D visual rendering data.
Because the .BUL file format is closed and exceptionally niche, standard online converters fail to parse its complex multidimensional structures.
