About BTI files

The .BTI file format is a proprietary Nintendo Texture File used extensively in Nintendo GameCube and Wii video games. Game developers use these files to store 2D image assets that are mapped onto 3D models during gameplay. Officially, these files were compiled using the proprietary Nintendo SDK. Today, modders and ROM hackers use community-built tools like BrawlBox or WiiExplorer to open, extract, or inject these textures. The current format is highly specialized and closed. It is not supported by web browsers or standard operating system image viewers. You cannot simply double-click a .BTI file to view it on Windows or macOS. Standard image converters completely fail because the file uses proprietary swizzling and hardware-specific compression methods like CMPR (Nintendo's variant of DXT1). Modders usually need to convert .BTI to standard raster formats like PNG or DDS to edit them in standard graphic design software. Converting to PNG ensures lossless editing, but you must convert it back to .BTI to inject it back into the game data. Because this is a closed console format, standard online converters typically crash or output corrupted pixel data. If our analysis detects supported underlying standard bitmap data or recognizable headers, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BTI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
