About BRMDL files

The .brmdl file is a proprietary 3D model format utilized by Nintendo for Wii console games. It contains the geometry, skeletal rigging, and material mapping data for in-game characters, items, or environments.

Modders and game developers typically extract or view these files using specialized community-developed tools like BrawlBox. The format was never intended for public use outside of the official Wii SDK.

This format presents massive challenges for standard workflows. It is a highly specialized, closed binary file. Mainstream 3D modeling software like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot open .brmdl files natively. The format is tightly coupled with the Wii's specific hardware architecture, making the raw file useless for modern game engines like Unity or Unreal.

To use these models in standard applications, you must convert the .brmdl file to universally recognized 3D formats such as OBJ, DAE (Collada), or FBX. Converting to OBJ will successfully preserve the 3D geometry but strip away the rigging and animations. For full functionality, DAE is the preferred target format because it generally retains the skeletal structure.

Because .brmdl is a compiled console binary, standard online converters fail to process it as they lack the specialized parsing logic for Nintendo formats.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BRMDL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
