Convert a file to BR1
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Game Data File" file type, you need software like Battle Realms or a similar tool.
About BR1 files
A .BR1 file typically functions as a proprietary game replay or save file for PC games such as Battle Realms, BloodRayne, and Warlords Battlecry. Alternatively, it acts as a digital audio project file generated by hardware multitrack recorders like the BOSS BR-1600. These files contain raw, engine-specific data rather than standardized media.
This format is heavily restricted by its proprietary nature. Game replay .BR1 files are not video files; they are simply coordinate and event data parsed by the game engine. Because they lack video data, they cannot be uploaded to YouTube or played in standard media players. Similarly, BOSS audio files use a non-standard filesystem that locks your multitrack recordings into the hardware ecosystem, requiring clunky legacy software to extract.
Converting these files requires specific workflows. To convert a game replay to an MP4, you must load the .BR1 file inside the original game engine and use screen recording software to capture the playback. To convert BOSS audio files to standard WAV or MP3 formats, you must use the official BOSS Wave Converter software. Standard online converters fail to process these files because the data is closed and lacks universal headers.
Just drag and drop your .BR1 file into convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. While the format is difficult to open or convert externally, our system can inspect the hex structure and show any readable internal text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BR1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BR1 file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Battle Realms or similar software from the "Game Replay or Audio Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The BR1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BR1 converter.
