About BIFX files
The .BIFX file is a project configuration file created by Get Backup Pro, a macOS utility developed by BeLight Software. These files act as the blueprint for archiving tasks, storing essential parameters such as source file paths, destination directories, compression levels, and automated schedules. They do not contain the actual backed-up media or documents.
Because .BIFX is a proprietary, closed format, it suffers from severe interoperability disadvantages. It is completely unreadable on Windows or Linux operating systems and requires a specific, paid macOS application to execute. Users frequently attempt to convert these files under the false assumption that they contain their missing photos or databases. In reality, you cannot convert a configuration file into a JPG or MP4.
Standard online converters fail to process .BIFX files because they lack the necessary parsers for closed macOS backup schemas. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, you can bypass this limitation to extract the raw configuration data into TXT or XML formats to review your folder paths.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BIFX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BIFX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BIFX converter.
