About AAXC files
The .AAXC file extension represents an Encrypted Audible Enhanced Audiobook, primarily distributed by Amazon Audible. It is fundamentally an MP4 media container holding a high-quality AAC audio stream, but it is wrapped in aggressive, proprietary encryption. The major disadvantage of the .AAXC format is its strict vendor lock-in. You cannot play these files on a standard media player, an open-source tool, or a car stereo. They require a mandatory ecosystem lock-in using the official Audible app, and they must be authorized with the specific user account that purchased the audiobook. Furthermore, these files frequently exceed 500MB in size, taking up significant device storage without offering the user any flexibility. Users typically want to convert .AAXC files to standard, open audio formats like MP3, M4B, or M4A for offline listening on non-Amazon devices and to ensure long-term preservation of their purchased content. However, because this is a closed, proprietary format heavily restricted by Digital Rights Management (DRM), standard online converters will always fail to process the raw file. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. While direct audio extraction of encrypted files is blocked by DRM, convert.guru can inspect the file headers and identify the internal metadata. If our analysis detects an unencrypted underlying format, or if you have legally removed the DRM using specialized desktop software, viewing and converting the audio into universal formats becomes entirely possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AAXC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The AAXC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AAXC converter.
